Dear Palmolive

Dear Palmolive,

I am writing you today to share my thoughts on your Palmolive Original dishwashing soap. The cleansing power of your soap appears to be unsatisfactory and poor at best, which is surprising being that it seems you hold a decent chunk of the dishwashing soaps market. My local Vons gives you about fifteen linear feet of shelf space for your dishwashing products. I think that might be fifteen feet too much.

Now, I have to admit, I'm a Dawn man. I've used Dawn for a great many years, primarily because that's what my parents used... well, either that, or Joy. Dad used Dawn up until my parents got a divorce... and then he switched to Joy, I'm thinking because Dawn is Mom's first name and he was trying to get rid of her presence in his life entirely because she was verbally abusive to all of us.

When it came time for me to move out onto my own, I found myself buying Dawn for my dishwashing needs. While I don't like the way it makes my hands feel after using it, I find that the true grease removing and cleansing power was, pun aside, spot on. You could strip three weeks old microwaved Hot Pocket guts off the surface of anything after leaving it soak for a good hour.

And then we have Palmolive.

Palmolive is about as effective as using a bottle of watered down blowing bubbles to wash my dishes.

It was about two weeks ago that I ran out of my usual Dawn. Trying to be a bit frugal, I remembered that we had a 3.75oz trial bottle of Palmolive at work that nobody had laid claim to; I think it might've been sent with the Sunday paper a while back. I snatched that up first thing the next morning, brought it home, and went to work on the few dishes I had in the sink. I had to use about a quarter of the bottle to knock out two nights worth of bacheloresque dishes. The soap? I couldn't get my sponge to hold onto any of the liquid, and there was next to no suds. Soft on hands? I'll give you that one. Tough on grease? Not even close...

I'm dissatisfied with your dishwashing soap, and am glad I was able to determine that with a trial bottle of your stuff. I will be sticking with Dawn going forward.

Unhappily,

Daniel
